Governor Hopeful To Come To Liberal

KSCB News - September 27, 2010 12:00 am

Public is invited to a reception for Gubernatorial Candidate Tom Holland

The public is invited to a “Meet and Greet” reception for Democrat

gubernatorial candidate Tom Holland from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.

29, at the Depot, 2 Rock Island Road in Liberal. This is the candidate’s

first visit to Liberal since the primary election. “I think this is a

great opportunity for people to be able to actually talk to the

candidate, ask him questions and find out what he stands for,” said Toby

Hale, chair of the Seward County Democratic Party. Light refreshments will be served.

Holland originally ran for the Kansas House in 2002 and served as the representative of the 10th House District from 2003 until 2009, when he became a state senator representing the 3rd District in rural Douglas, Leavenworth and Jefferson Counties. He presently serves as the ranking minority member on the Senate Assessment and Taxation, Business & Labor and Commerce committees and also serves on the Financial Institutions and Insurance committee.

As a legislator, Tom received recognition in 2003 from the Kansas Disability Caucus for leadership in addressing the need to fund programs for people with disabilities. He serves as advisory council co-chair of the Kansas Small Business Development Center and serves on the board of directors for both Kansas, Inc. and KTEC.

Following the reception, at 7 p.m., the Seward County Democratic Party will hold its reorganization meeting. The local Democrats had originally planned the meeting for Sept. 30. “We will not be holding our usual potluck dinner but we thought this would be a more effective use of our time,” said Hale. The agenda for the meeting includes election of officers, appointments of unfilled precinct positions and the upcoming elections.
