Goofy Golf And A Hamburger This Friday

KSCB News - August 8, 2012 7:06 pm

Are you ready for some Goofy Golf with a free hamburger? The Epic PCS Seventh Annual Goofy Golf Tournament for the Seward County United Way will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 10, at Grif Golf at Bluebonnet Park.

??Epic PCS is our Tournament Sponsor again this year,? said Kay Burtzloff, director of the Seward County United Way. ??We really appreciate their support and hope that people will come out and enjoy a great evening of miniature golf. I really admire how Epic PCS supports many worthwhile causes in our community and their commitment really shows.?

??We are also really excited to add something new this year, since we??ve moved it to an evening tournament. Thanks to National Beef providing the beef and Best Market for providing the buns, every player will get a free hamburger,? Burtzloff said. ??I??ll have volunteers grilling up the burgers so players can enjoy one either before or after they play miniature golf.?

The cost of the tournament is $2 for a two-youth team, $3 for a youth/adult team and $4 for a two-adult team. Youth players are 15 years old or younger. ??Teams don??t have to register ahead of time, they just have to show up the evening of the tournament,? Burtzloff said. First, second and third place trophies will be giving in the three categories.

On certain holes, the golfers will have special challenges. On one hole, they will have to act like a pirate complete with eye patch and saying ??aargh? while they putt. At another hole, they will be using swimming noodles for their golf clubs. There will be five special challenge holes in the tournament. One hole will be designated as the “hole-in-one” prize hole. The first golfer to score a hole-in-one will get a $25 Chamber Gift Certificate.

??Everyone seems to have a lot of fun at our tournament and it??s a great way to showcase the facility. Kids Inc. has been one of our agencies for years and we provide more than 65 percent of their funding. This is their way of supporting United Way and what it does for them,?? she said. “We wanted to keep the cost of playing low this year so that families can feel free to come out, have a great time and not spend a lot of money.”

Burtzloff said that there are still sponsorship spots available for the tournament. “We have hole sponsorships for $25 and banner sponsorships for $100. It’s our sponsors that help to make this a financial success. Last year, we raised more than $3,000 with this tournament.? Sponsors that have already signed up to support the tournament, in addition to tournament sponsor Epic PCS, include High Plains Pizza Hut, McDonald??s, First National Bank, Southern Pioneer Electric, Hay Rice & Associates, Dermatology Laser Center, Community Bank, Liberal Office Machines, Billy??s Blue Duck Barbeque and Mexican Grill, SCCC/ATS, Liberal Animal Hospital, Mortgages Unlimited, Staat Jewelry, State Farm Insurance ?? Roger Crossman, Edward Jones ?? Greg Bird, Don & Judy Owens, and Southern Office Supply.

“I hope that everyone supports our sponsors the way they have supported us. They’ve made it possible for us to have a fun fundraiser where wecan give out trophies and prizes and still raise money for our 27 agencies.” For more information about the tournament or to become a sponsor, contact Burtzloff at 624-5400 or [email protected].
