Former Guymon Hibbett Store Manager Charged With Embezzlement

The former manager of the Guymon Hibbett Sports has been arrested on a felony charge of embezzlement.
Natalie Dawn Marler, 40, of Guymon, was arrested by the Guymon Police Department on Feb. 24, 2011, according to the arrest warrant filed Feb. 24, 2011 with the Texas County District Court. The affidavit states Marler allegedly appropriated merchandise and cash equaling $2,283.
In November, Sarah McCoin, a Hibbett Sports regional loss prevention manager, conducted an audit of the store’s paperwork, which revealed missing merchandise form the Guymon store, the affidavit states. On Jan. 14, the regional manager filed a report to the Guymon Police Department about the lost merchandise.
In the report, which included information from a police interview with Marler on Jan. 19, Marler said she was the store’s manager from October-December 2010, leaving the position just before the end of the year. In her report to police, McCoin said the new store manager was aware of the missing merchandise. McCoin believes the items were taken by Marler without payment, the affidavit states.
McCoin reported that several employees had advised McCoin that Marler was allowing employee discounts to unqualified customers as well as allowing those customers to return items to the store, the affidavit states. McCoin reported that Marler would refund the discounted items to the customer and keep the remainder of the refund for herself.
A camera was installed above the store’s cash register to provide a video surveillance, the affidavit states. Between Dec. 10-27, the surveillance captured numerous images of Marler taking merchandise from the store and giving merchandise to customers without the store receiving payment.
During the police interview with Marler on Jan. 19, an officer revealed the information about the surveillance, the affidavit states. Upon learning that information, Marler told the officer she had taken merchandise from the store around Christmastime; Marler also agreed to write a statement confirming that.
This was not the first time Marler has been charged with a felony. In 2003, Marler was charged in the Northern District of Oklahoma Court for misappropriation of funds, and she received a three-year suspended sentence. Marler is out on a $20,000 P.F. bond and is scheduled to return to court March 28.
