Forgan Tops Tyrone in Shootout

KSCB News - October 2, 2009 12:00 am

(Forgan, OK)- Last year Forgan and Tyrone were scoreless at halftime. In Fridayź??s game though it was apparent early that this yearź??s rivalry match-up would be much different as Forgan topped Tyrone 53-30. It was Forgan’s second consecutive victory over the Bobcats of Tyrone.

Forgan scored first in just four plays on a 66 yard drive that was capped off by a two yard touchdown run by sophomore quarterback Rhett Radcliff. The two point conversion failed.

Tyrone answered back quickly though on a 57 yard touchdown run by sophomore Travis Shield. The two point conversion failed keeping the score knotted at 6-6.

The Bulldogs of Forgan then had an eight play drive that went 56 yards capped off by another Ratcliff rushing touchdown. The successful two point conversion gave Forgan a 14-6 lead.

The Bobcats next drive stalled as they turned the ball over on downs. It was six plays later that Rhett Radcliff hooked up with sophomore Ryan Radcliff for a 29 yard touchdown pass. The two point conversion failed.

In the second quarter, Tyrone stayed in the game on a 49 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Tyler Lia to Shield. The two point conversion was successful on a quarterback keeper by Lia. That cut the deficit to just six.

Forgan would answer back though with two scores before halftime. The first was another touchdown pass from Radcliff to Radcliff, this time going for 16 yards. Rhett then scored on a three yard rushing touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 34-14 halftime lead.

Tyrone scored first in the second half scoring a touchdown mid-way through the third quarter on a three yard touchdown run by Shield to cap off an eight play 42 yard drive following a Forgan fumble. After the successful two point conversion the deficit was just twelve.

The Bulldogs answered back in a big way though scoring 19 unanswered points. The first eight came on a 19 yard touchdown run by senior Miguel Ordonez. He also ran in the two point conversion. The next eleven points came in the fourth quarter on a field goal by junior Dusty Armstrong, and the third and final Radcliff to Radcliff quarterback to receiver combo for 16 yards.

Tyrone would score the game’s final points in the final minute on a Shield five yard touchdown run. Shield was also injured on the play after a big hit and was on the ground for several minutes. Shield was able to walk off on his own power though and appeared to be okay.

Tyrone dropped to 2-3 on the season. They will host Waynoka next Friday. Forgan improved to 3-1 and will host Goodwell next Friday.

Notable: The Forgan-Tyrone rivalry was in full force Friday as there were numerous late hit and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in the game.
