Forgan Coach Brings Carnival to Tyrone

KSCB News - August 14, 2013 6:46 am

Eleventh year head coach Josh Bell says it’s not about him. That why Bell was receptive to Forgan coach Billy Nichols joining the Tyrone staff after Forgan didn’t have enough players to field a team. Bell jumped at the chance of bringing in Nichols who coached Forgan to the state championship game last year. Nichols brings in his "carnival" offense to the Bobcats and joins a Tyrone staff at his alma mater after leading Forgan to a state runner up finish in Class C last season. It certainly is a rare situation but players have been responsive to an increased work load so far.

The Bobcats were 6-4 last year but missed the playoffs. They lose 10 players from last year’s team which usually spells doom for a Class C school. But the Bobcats have 20 players out for football and two returning starters.

Some of the key Bobcats include Sr. DE/C Jose Garcia, Sr. QB/LB Ethan Reece, Sr. WR/CB Nerlin Rivera, Sr. G/DT Conrad Brockett, Sr. DE/G Zack Smith, Fr. TE/DT Willie Slater, Jr. RB/LB Gage Schoolcraft, Jr. WR/DB Gage Runte, So. RB/CB Ryan Reece, Sr. G/DT Joseph Griffin, and Sr. TE/LB Rusty Cates.

The Bobcats have had gone 6-4, 5-5, and 6-4 the past three years and have become a competitive program. Bell hopes Nichols influence will help carry Tyrone over the hump.

The Bobcats will be featured during the Wednesday morning edition of the Sportsguys.
