Finney County May Lose Out On New Employer

Economic development officials say Finney County’s chances for landing a new manufacturing business may be dimming.

The unnamed company has been considering the southwest Kansas county and two out-of-state locations as places to expand its light manufacturing operations.

The Garden City Telegram reports the company has been working since August with the Finney County Economic Development Corp.

But corporation president Eric Depperschmidt said this week the company is asking for cash incentives ?? about $2.5 million more than his agency can afford.

Depperschmidt has said the manufacturer requires two to three acres of land, a 25,000-square-foot building and major highway access. In Finney County it would have 50 start-up jobs and 180 employees within five years.
