Experience Served in LHS Volleyball Program

KSCB News - August 31, 2010 12:00 am

Liberal has five seniors and three players who took the court at state in Topeka two years ago. The Redskins were 24-14 last year after WAC championship seasons of 29-12, 32-7, and 31-5 under coach Hugo Cano. He resigned his position after last season and Thais Baziquetto steps in to coach the team. The former Lamar Community College assistant and Brazil native brings college experience and a new perspective to a team with a blend of veteran players and underclassman.

Seniors Ashlyn Westerman and Katie Burnett were all WAC players last year and sr. Caitlin Bauer joined them at state as sophomores. Senior Destiny Hall provides stability in the middle and came on last year for LHS. Lakeria Eatmon didn’t play last year but is expected to start this year. The lone jr. is Emily Bayouth who returns with varsity experience from last year. The sophomore class is strong with libero Riley Hay, back row player Cynthia Cisneros. Sophomores Jaycee Darroch and Makiah Adams also will figure in Liberal’s rotation. Two freshmen crack the varsity lineup. Jai Chapman is an expected starter and Katie Garcia also makes varsity as a freshman.

Liberal hosts Southwestern Heights Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in the “Big House.” Heights beat Liberal in a thrilling five game match at Heights last year.

Baziquetto and the LHS seniors will be guests during the Sportsguys Tuesday morning on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
