Elkhart Man Dies In A Two Vehicle Accident

An Elkhart man lost his life in a two vehicle accident at approximately 3:20 Thursday afternoon. A 1982 Kenworth semi being driven by Michael Jay Sharpe, 39, of Walsh Colorado, was southbound on Road 7, when he failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of Road R. The semi struck a 2006 Ford pick up being driven by Gary Alan Ikeler, 46, of Elkhart, on the drivers side door. Both vehicles left the roadway, overturned, and came to rest in the southwest quadrant of the intersection. Ikeler was pronounced dead at the scene. Seatbelts were in use by Ikeler, but it is unknown if Sharpe was wearing his.
