Elkhart Leans on Line

KSCB News - August 26, 2014 1:47 pm

Elkhart returns all of their line from last year’s 8-2 team. That is a good starting point to preview what is a promising season at the 2A Morton County school. That’s despite losing one of the most productive players in school history Alex Gomez to graduation. But there are 33 out for football, seven starters back on defense, and eight starters back on offense for fifth year head coach Khris Buckner. Buckner has 10 seniors who were eighth graders when he came to town.

Some of the key Wildcats are Sr. T/DE Wes Higgins, Jr. RB/DT Tanner Burnett, Sr. T/DE Marshall Witcher, Sr. QB/LB A.J. McKinley, Sr. WR/LB Coltin Boaldin, Sr. WR/OLB-SS Preston Bashford, Sr. lineman Bryton Coen, Sr. FB/DT Taylor Harn, and So. RB Shon Villa. McKinley steps in a quarterback after he was an all Hi Plains League receiver for Gomez.

Elkhart has been 7-2, 3-6, 5-4, and 8-2 under Buckner. But it would appear that everything has been building toward this season. Elkhart was featured during the Sportsguys Tuesday morning.
