Director Announces New Movie To Be Filmed Locally

After four years and winning national honors for his video work, Film Director Joel Trujillo is back – ready to revisit his zombie genre he began seven years ago.

“This is a sequel prequel,” said Trujillo, noting his first zombie movie, “Dusk of the Living Dead,” was followed by “Fields of the Living Dead” and “Eclipse of the Dead.”

The new movie, “Disco of the Dead,” takes place after both the 1960’s era “Dusk” and “Fields” and before the 2008 “Eclipse.” This new film will take place in the 1970s. The script, written by Trujillo, tells the story of 10-year-old Monty McCormic who was introduced in “Eclipse” as a 40-year-old adult.

“The requests from our fans and actors have been repeated often throughout the area especially in the towns where we filmed. I always wanted to tell the story of how Monty met Kennie Porter, my main character from all three movies and played by D. Brent McKinley. This is the time to do it. I’m looking forward to revisiting this movie genre and I am excited to introduce new characters. The story line is where we see Kennie assigned by the government to help with safe zones in southwest Kansas for the zombie apocalypse,” said Trujillo.

Trujillo has had the idea since filming ended on “Eclipse” in 2007, but as a comic book not a film. He was in the process of pitching the story to various comic book companies, but refrained due to “everyday life” and because of the many requests from fans to do another movie. This is, in effect, Trujillo’s comic book on film.

“Disco of the Dead” is Trujillo’s third foray into solo movie directing. He paired with Randy Greenwood on “Dusk” and “Fields. Following that, Greenwood went on to write and direct “Lost Treasure Trail” and Trujillo released “Serpent Lake” in 2009.

“Randy and I had a great time with our first movies and we both enjoy the challenge of creating movies locally,” said Trujillo, who has won two Telly Awards, a premier award honoring outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and web commercials, videos and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and corporate video departments in the world.

The first part of filming for the new movie will take place at Club Venue 54 using the original 1970’s dance floor and disco ball.

“We are looking for extras, so get out your silk shirts, platform shoes, empire waist and go-go dresses, double knit three-piece suits, jewelry, and thin headbands. Bring your best disco dancing moves as we start principal filming at Club Venue 54 on Friday, May 24, at 7 p.m. Club Venue 54 is located at 422 U.S. 54 in Guymon. Extras for this location must be 21-years old or older.
