Deadline To Enter Cooking Contest Approaches

KSCB News - February 28, 2011 8:02 am

The deadline to enter the annual Pancake Day cooking and recipe contest, set for Mar. 5 at the Seward County Event Center, is 5 p.m. Thursday. The contest is open to anyone age 12 or older living within a 70-mile radius of Liberal, and a total of cash and prizes valued at more than $400 will be awarded to the winners.
Entrants are to create a unique dish using any type of pancake mix. The dish can be savory or sweet, a main, side, or dessert dish, a twist on traditional pancakes, or something totally the opposite of the “pancake” concept, as long as all rules are followed.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place, with entries judged on taste, originality and creativity, use of product and appetite appeal.
First prize is $300 in cash and merchandise. Second prize is $100 in cash and merchandise and third prize is $50 in cash and merchandise.
Those interested in entering may pick up entry forms at the Liberal Convention and Tourism Bureau, One Yellow Brick Road, or from the web site: www.pancakeday.net. Entries must be submitted at the Liberal Convention and Tourism Bureau by 5 p. m., Thursday, Mar. 3. Contestants will be given a copy of the contest rules when they register. Entrants must prepare their dishes ahead of time and bring them to the Seward County Event Center Saturday morning, Mar. 5. The contest will follow the flipping and eating competitions.
The public is invited to attend and to sample the dishes after winners are announced.
For more information on any Pancake Day event, call Jo Ann Combs at 624-6423 or visit the web site at www.pancakeday.net.
