On October 22, 2009, the United States Department of Homeland Security reported suspicious activity involving an aircraft at the airport in Liberal, Kansas. Personnel from the Liberal Police Department, Southwest Kansas Drug Task Force, Seward County Sheriffź??s Office, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Beaver County Sheriffź??s Office responded to investigate.

A search warrant was executed, which resulted in a significant amount of cocaine found on the aircraft. Agents from the Kansas Department of Revenue and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) responded to assist with further investigation of the seizure of controlled substance. Two subjects were placed in custody in Liberal later that night; however, the identities of those persons are currently withheld, pending Federal indictment.
