City Of Liberal Announces Deadline For City Commission Election

City clerk Debbie Giskie announces that the deadline for candidates to file for the three vacant City Commission positions is noon on Tuesday, January 25, 2011. The positions currently held by Robert "Bob" Carlile, Dave Harrison and Larry Koochel will be vacant in April. Harrison and Koochel will have served 4 year terms, while Carlile will have served a 2-year term. At the April 5, 2011 general election, the top two successful candidates will receive 4-year terms and the third successful candidate will receive a 2-year term. If more than nine individuals file for the vacant City Commission positions, a primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, to reduce the candidates to three per position.

Those interested in filing for City Commission need to complete a Candidate’s Declaration of Intention form and pay teh $45.00 filing fee with the City Clerk’s office. The office is located at City Hall, 324 North Kansas, is open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
