City Council In Wichita Hopes To Impose Jail Fees To Inmates

KSCB News - September 21, 2011 8:20 am

The Wichita City Council has given
first-round backing to imposing fees on some people held at the
Sedgwick County Jail on municipal charges.
KFDI-FM reports the council approved the plan Tuesday on a 5-0
vote. A final vote is expected next week.
The fees of $2 per hour or $48 per day would be charged only on
people eventually convicted of a municipal offense. The plan also
includes a $10 processing fee and an increase in court costs from
$59 to $63.
Wichita officials say the fees would help offset the amount the
county charges the city for holding people accused of municipal
offenses.
Sedgwick county began charging the city jail fees in 2008 on
municipal cases.
