City Commission Meets

The Liberal City Commission met for their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night at 6:30pm in the Liberal City Commission Chambers. Among the items on the agenda , commissioners approved 18 environmental abatements and 56 vehicle abatements. Commissioners also set hearings for the condemnation of properties at 530 N. Oklahoma, 515 N. Nebraska, and 412 E. 5th Street. The hearings will take place on April 13, 2010 in the City Commission Chambers. A request to purchase a new mower for the Waste Water Treatment Plant was tabled pending staff gathering more information on the purchase of a diesel versus a gas mower, and also approved the expenditure of $21,128.53 for upgrades to the audio and visual improvements to the Commission Chambers/Channel 15. Liberal’s Fire Department was once again awarded the Fiscal Year 2009 Assistance To Firefighters Grant in the amount of $32,940.00 which requires a 10% match or $3,660.00. THis match was approved by the commission with the money going to additional training for Liberal’s Firefighters. Police Chief Sill also gave the Commission on update on crime statistics as compiled by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Chief Sill noted, according to the report, a significant drop in crime over the last 3 years. The Liberal City Commission will take part in the Council of Governments meeting Thursday morning before travelling to Garden City for a meeting of the Southwest Kansas Coalition Thursday evening. The next regularly scheduled meet of the Liberal City Commission is March 9, 2010.
