Joe Denoyer - September 28, 2021 10:30 pm

At 1:31 AM on Sunday morning, the Grant County Fire Dept. was paged to the  Birla Carbon USA Plant  at 3500 S RD S for a report of a ware house on fire.  Upon arrival fire units found the entire contents of the warehouse on fire. The contents were approximately 200 pallets of carbon black.

Mutual aid from the Satanta Fire Department and the Stanton County Fire Department was requested.  Fire attack lines were deployed on 3 sides of the warehouse and the fire was determined to be out at approximately 3:00pm. All contents of the building were lost, but the building was saved.

The Grant County Fire Dept. returned to the station to clean and restock all apparatus’. All units were restored to operating status by 6:30pm The fire was very difficult due to the fine carbon dust. Firefighters worked 17 hours before returning home.

One firefighter needed assistance from the Grant County EMS at the scene.
