Burglary Suspects Admit to Theft

KSCB News - August 21, 2009 12:00 am

Two Guymon women are being held at the Texas County Detention Center for allegedly breaking into a home and stealing medication on Aug. 6, 2009, from an elderly woman. According to a story in the Guymon Daily Herald, Kelsey M. Shrout, 20, and Natalie Sears, 19, were arrested on Friday, Aug. 14, on charges relating to the alleged crime.

According to the affidavit for warrant of arrest filed at the Texas County Court Clerk’s Office, Guymon Police Department was dispatched to the victim’s address for a possible larceny. Officers spoke with the resident who informed them that she had a damaged door and 60 of her xanax, a prescribed medication which is a benzodiazepine used to calm the central nervous system.

The report says the victim acted very aloof, as if she was withholding information from the reporting officer. Upon further questioning, the victim advised officers that the people she believed responsible for stealing her medication was her granddaughter, Natalie Sears and her friend, Kelsey Shrout, she reported being worried about getting her granddaughter in trouble.

At 1:03 p.m. the same day as the Police report was filed, the report goes on to say that Sears and Shrout went to the Guymon Police Department. When the officer asked Sears if she had stolen her grandmother’s prescription drugs, Sears replied, “Yeah I took the pills. I can’t help it if I’m a drug addict.” Sear’s demeanor was reported as very disrespectful. When the officer asked who Kelsey was she allegedly replied, “I’m the accomplice.” Neither of the suspects showed any remorse according to the Officer, and made no attempt to deny taking the pills.

The two were later picked up on warrants, and are being charged for burglary in the second degree and larceny of CDS, xanax. The two are currently awaiting trial at the Texas County Detention Center on bonds of $15,000.
