BJ’s Fall Into Fifth

The Liberal Bee Jays are free falling. They have lost six of their last eight and have fallen to fifth place in the six team Jayhawk League. League champ Wellington scored all eleven runs in the last four innings for an 11-8 win over Liberal Saturday night at Brent Gould Field. The BJ’s had four errors and lost despite out-hitting the Heat 16-10.

Justin Schnedler gave the BJ’s a solid starting outing going six innings allowing one run with four strikeouts. The Bee Jays scored two in the fourth when Robert Dugger bounced a ball over the shortstops’ to score two runs with two outs. The Heat scored their only run against Schnedler in the sixth. The Heat scored four unearned runs on reliever Nick Jones in the seventh. They scored four runs on three hits and three BJ errors. Zach Reding blasted a homer to left in the bottom of the seventh to make it 10-3. It was Reding’s seventh of the season. The Heat added five runs against newcomer Cody McGill in the eighth after the BJ’s walked three in the inning. Mike Rampone hit a solo homer to left in the eighth for his second of the season. The Heat added a run in the ninth. Liberal rallied with four runs on six hits in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate twice. Kyle Lieser and Rampone provided RBI singles. Zach Hoffman hit a sacrifice fly and Tanner Vandevere grounded out to drive home a run.

A 1976 Liberal BJ Denny Doss was in attendance and threw the ceremonial first pitch.

The Bee Jays are 18-19 and 12-19 in the Jayhawk as the Heat improve to 34-6 and 25-4. The same two teams meet Sunday night at 7 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.

Hays beat Derby 4-1 in Hays and El Dorado topped Dodge City 3-1 in Dodge.
