BJ’s Bounce Broncos in Game 1

The Liberal Bee Jays win round one. The BJ’s took game one of their four game series with E l Dorado 12-5 Monday night at Brent Gould Field. The BJ’s have a half game lead in the Jayhawk League North. The Broncos did not bring their ‘A’ game Monday night committing six errors and seven walks.

The Broncos, buoyed by a six game winning streak, scored in the first against starter Brad Vassar. Liberal tied it in the first as Gavin Wehby walked and Madison Foster singled and Wehby scored on a double play. The Broncos took a 2-1 lead in the third. But the Bee Jays scored five in the bottom of the inning. Nick Brooks, Jared Huber, and Wehby provided RBI doubles. The Broncos had two errors in the inning and all six runs were unearned. The Broncos scored two in the fifth to make it 6-5. Liberal put up a three spot in the bottom of the sixth to lead 9-5. Wehby reached on an errors and scored on a throwing error from the catcher to third. Brady Cox singled home a run and Liberal scored a run despite an El Dorado double play. The Bee Jays added three more in the eighth as the rain began to fall at Brent Gould Field. Williams doubled to lead off the inning. Cox singled home two. Chapman grounded out to score a run.

Vassar got the win going five innings allowing five runs and nine hits. Thomas Garland worked four perfect innings for his third save. Liberal out-hit El Dorado 12-9.

Liberal is 21-11 overall and 17-9 in the Jayhawk while the Broncos are 19-9 and 16-9. The same two teams play Tuesday night at 7 at Brent Gould Field on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
