After a run rule loss on Monday, the Liberal Bee Jays broke through with a 14-6 win over the visiting Hays Larks Tuesday night at Brent Gould Field. The B.J.’s built a 10-0 lead on the way to the win.
Liberal scored five in the first. They loaded the bases on three walks. With two outs, Adam Swanson lined a three RBI triple down the right field line. After a 4th walk in the inning, Drew Gartman ripped a two RBI triple to left center. The Jays scored five in the fourth. Ben Finnegan doubled to lead off the inning. Will Bologna singled home a run. Cole Manuel singled. Cal Anthony roped a three run home run to right. Trenton Uyeda made it 10-0 with an RBI triple to right. The Larks rallied with four in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one in the seventh to make it 10-6. But the Bee Jays regained control with a four run seventh. Seth Green laid down a bunt to lead off the inning. Ben Finnegan singled. Cole Manuel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Cal Anthony line a two RBI single to right. Finnegan scored on a wild pitch for the 14th run.
Liberal out-hit Hays 11-7. Liberal had the game’s only error.
Cal Anthony was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game going 2-5 with five RBI’s. Ben Finnegan was 2-4 with three runs. Each BJ starter had a hit.
Brooks Kappelmann made a spot start and went 4 and 2/3 innings with five strikeouts allowing four runs. Jack Taczy went 1 and 2/3 allowing one run with four strikeouts. Braden Whipple went two scoreless to close it out with five strikeouts.
Hays is 23-5 overall and 16-5 in the Rocky Mountain. Liberal is 18-9-1 overall and 15-6 in the Rocky Mountain. The same two teams play Wednesday night at 7pm with at 6:45 pregame on 1270 and 92.3 FM. KSCB and Windtree Management are the buyout sponsors.
