Bee Jays Gain Much Needed Win at Hays

KSCB News - June 28, 2010 12:00 am

The Liberal BJ’s picked up a rare win at Hays Sunday night 8-4 to move back to .500 in the Jayhawk League. St. Louis University’s Travis Parker pitched four and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball in relief to pick up the win and the BJ bats awakened with 13 hits including three triples. Parker, the former Seward player, improved to 2-0 with five strikeouts and one walk. Christian Kowalchuk started the game going four and one-third innings striking out five and walking one.

After Hays scored single runs during the first two innings, the BJ’s cranked up the offense plating two in the third and three in the fourth. Hays would cut the lead to one (5-4) by scoring runs in the fifth and sixth innings. But the BJ’s would score insurance runs in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings. Seward’s Kelby Tomlinson led the offensive attack going 3-5 with a two RBI triple in the three run fourth. Lubbock Christian’s Richard Bohlken led off the fourth with a homer over the left field wall for his first of the season. The BJ third baseman was 2-4 with the homer and a triple. Kansas State’s Nick Cocking would add an RBI triple in the ninth. Oklahoma Science and Arts David Masters was 2-5 and scored a run from second base on a wild pitch in the sixth to make the score 6-4.

The Bee Jays are 10-6 overall and 6-6 in the Jayhawk while Hays is 11-5 overall and 7-4 in the Jayhawk. Liberal hosts Junction City Monday and Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. OBGYN and Associates are the buyout sponsors tonight.
