Bee Jays Dominate Opener

The 2018 Liberal began their season with an emphatic 16-0 victory over the visiting Oklahoma City Indians at Brent Gould Field in Liberal Friday night.Twelve different Bee Jays banged out 21 hits while holding the Indians to four hits.  The Indians lost 4-3 at Haysville the night before.

Liberal used five different pitchers in this non league game.  Zach Zeller, David Moffat, Christian Isenhour, and Payton Bauer pitched two scoreless innings a piece and Zac Bridger pitched one scoreless.

The BJ’s scored two in the first when Jake Northern singled home a run and another run scored on an error.  Liberal scored three in the third.  Sean Arnold tripled home two runs and Boone Montgomery singled home a run for a 5-0 lead.  Tom Lichty led off the fourth with a double and would scored on a two RBI triple to right center by Dylan Paul.  Sean Arnold homered to lead off the fifth.  Tom Lichty singled home a run and Clint Allen doubled home a run.  An error allowed a fourth run in that fifth inning to score.  Lichty doubled again in the sixth for another run.  Jonathan Tapia and Paul doubled to lead off the seventh and would scored on singled by Daniel Abiles and Payton Johnson.  Paul added an RBI single in the eighth.  Paul was 5-6 with three RBI’s and four runs in the win.  Lichty was 4-5 with two doubles.

Liberal is 1-0 after defeating a former Jayhawk League foe.  The two teams play Saturday night at 7 at Brent Gould Field.  Days Inn is the buyout sponsor.
