Accident Claims The Life Of USD 480 Librarian/Coach

A 2 vehicle accident early Wednesday moring has claimed the life of a Satanta woman. At approximately 6:56 this morning, Patricia Amerin, 56, of Plains, was westbound on Seward County Road 7 when she failed to stop at the stop sign at Road 7 and US Highway 83. The Amerin vehicle struck a 2011 Lincoln being driven Rita Shogren, 55, of Satanta. Shogren was killed in the accident, Amerin was taken to Southwest Medical Center in critical condition. Rita Shogren was a librarian at Sunflower Intermediate School in Liberal.

USD 480 Issues Statement:

This morning there was a tragic automobile accident which resulted in the death of one of our USD 480 staff members. Mrs. Rita Shogren who served as librarian at Sunflower, McDermott, Southlawn and Garfield and who also coached volleyball at West was traveling south on US highway 83 and was hit by another car. Counselors and staff are available to assist and support students and staff.
