Liberal senior Emmanuel Garcia makes state for a third straight year. Garcia was the regional runner up in singles at Liberal’s 6A regional at Maize South Friday. Garcia beat a player from Wichita Heights and a player from Maize 6-1, 6-2 in the first two rounds. He beat another Wichita Heights player in the semifinals 6-3,6-2 to advance to the regional final where he lost to a Maize South player 6-0,6-0. This will be Garcia’s first trip to state in singles as he participated in doubles each of the last two years.
Diego Flores was Liberal’s other singles player. He lost 6-1,6-0 to Wichita Heights in the first round.
In doubles, Parker Brown and Quinn Brown won their opening round over Wichita Heights 6-4, 6-1. They lost to Dodge City 2-6, 6-4 (8). They lost to Garden City 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Miguel Ovalle and J’Kobe Contreras lost in the first round to Garden City 6-2,6-2.
Emmanuel Garcia will compete at 6A state in Junction City on Friday.
