Redskins Can’t Overcome Hot Shooting Great Bend

Brock Kappelmann - February 17, 2019 8:48 am

The Great Bend Panthers came out firing on their way to spoiling Liberal’s homecoming game Saturday night in the Big House. The Great Bend Panthers  built a big early lead and coasted to a 67-51 win over the Liberal Redskins in the Big House.

Great Bend made 8-10 three pointers in the first half on the way to building a lead of 9-1 and 20-11 after one.  Liberal held Great Bend sharp shooter Alex Schremmer to three points in a win at Great Bend on February 1, but Schremmer made three 3 pointers in the opening minutes to grab an early lead.  This carried over to his Panther teammates as Great Bend led 34-13 and 34-15 at the half.  The Redskins rallied and cut the lead to eight twice including 45-37.

The Skins did not have a good shooting night at 9-16 at the foul line and 4-23 from three point range.  Great Bend was 19-27 at the foul line and 8-18 from three point range.  Brody Sumner led Liberal with 15 points.  Syrus Dunlap had 11 and Jordan Mendoza added eight.

The Redskins fall to 10-8 and 1-5 in the WAC as Great Bend improves to 8-12 and 4-4 in the WAC.  The Redskins play at Dodge City Monday night at about 7:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
