Bee Jays Lose Series to Last Place Bat Cats

Brock Kappelmann - July 20, 2018 7:17 am

After a six game winning streak, the Liberal Bee Jays have now lost three straight.  Two of those losses are to last place Great Bend.  Thursday night at Brent Gould Field, the Bee Jays took a humbling loss to last place Great Bend 9-7.  The Bat Cats have lost 11 of their last 13 but their two wins in that span come against Liberal as the Bat Cats win the series at Liberal and split the season series.

Great Bend jumped on starter Hayden Udall for one in the first, three in the second and one in the third.  They greeted reliever Dylan Paul with four in the fourth to make it 9-2 Bat Cats.  Liberal scored one in the first as Peyton Johnson singled home Clint Allen.  Johnson doubled to lead off the third and scored on a Jack Krauel RBI for Liberal’s two runs in that span.  Liberal got back in the game with four in the fourth.  Jonathan Tapia, Clint Allen, and Dane Simon singled to lead off the inning.  Brock Burton doubled off the wall in left center to score two.  Brett Vosik reached on a fielder’s choice which drove home a run and another run scored on an error to make it 9-6.  Liberal scored another run in the sixth thanks to an error.  Liberal did not have a hit after the fourth.

A few bright spots came out of the bullpen.  Christian Isenhour pitched two scoreless innings before Jake Hamilton went three scoreless innings striking out seven.

Liberal drops their third straight after winning six straight.  Liberal is 17-13 in the Jayhawk and Great Bend is 9-22.  Liberal hosts Derby to begin at three game series Friday night at 7 with pre-game at 6:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.  Windtree Management and Leasing is the buyout sponsor.
