Second Inning Sinks Bee Jays in Derby

Brock Kappelmann - June 9, 2018 6:56 am

Liberal walked four and beaned three in one inning. That inning, the second, was costly Friday night in an 11-4 loss at Derby in the first game of a three game series.

Derby scored one in the first against starter Jake Hamilton. But the Bee Jays rallied to take  the lead as Chase Hacker doubled home a run and would later break down the line from third to score as Jonathan Tapia stole second. But the BJ’s fell apart in the second allowing eight on just two hits falling behind 9-2. David Moffat came on in relief and pitched 4 and 2/3 solid innings. Bailey Cantu went the last two innings. Clint Allen singled home a run in the fourth and Brett Vosik singled home a fifth inning run.

The hits were even 8-8 and Derby committed the game’s only three errors. But Liberal pitching walked 11 and beaned three.

Both teams are 5-2 overall and Liberal is 3-1 and still in first in the Jayhawk League. The Twins are 2-1. Liberal plays at Derby again Saturday night at 7 with pregame at 6:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
