Mary Ellen Grubbs

Mary Ellen Grubbs, age 83, of Ulysses, Kansas died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born January 23, 1930 in Grant County, Kansas, the daughter of Archie Lee and Mabel (Cox) Turner.

Mary Ellen traveled as a child with her family. They settled in Ulysses and she attended Grant County Rural High School. Mary Ellen married Norman D. Grubbs on September 18, 1946 in Ulysses, Kansas. After their marriage, they moved to Hugoton and raised their family there. In 1996, they moved to Ulysses. Mary Ellen loved family get-togethers, dancing, singing, and hummingbirds. She was a member of the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda Young and husband O.D. of Ulysses, Kansas, Pam Lewis and husband Jim of Jay, Oklahoma, Debbie Sue Arnold and husband Jerry of Satanta, Kansas; eight grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman in 2008; daughter, Donna Rae Jones; two brothers, John Turner, Pete Tuner, and sister, Sharon Dumcum.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton, Kansas. Friends may call Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
