Saints Drop 14 Inning Game to Coffeyville

KSCB News - May 8, 2015 10:19 pm

Basebal can be an unforgiving game. That was evident Friday afternoon in Seward’s 7-2 loss in 14 innings to Coffeyville in Wichita’s Lawrence Dumont Stadium. Moments after crushing two long outs to the warning track, Seward’s all American catcher Brent Williams dropped a throw home for an error on a squeeze play allowing the lead to score in a painstakingly frustrating loss for the Jayhawk West champs.

The Red Ravens, coached by former BJ coach John Martin, scored a run on three hits in the first against starter JB Olson. The Saints answered in the third when Chad Kennedy walked, stole second, and scored on Brandon Urquizo’s ground out to second. The Saints took a 2-1 lead in the sixth despite lining into a double play. Dillon Drury whistled a double to left and Justin Graff-Rowe singled to right to score him. Coffeyville tied it in the ninth as Olson drew a no decision despite a nine inning gem which included a stretch of retiring 13 in a row. Jakob Heranndez came on in relief and pitched 4.3 innings before allowing four runs and two earned in the 14th.

The Saints lose their opener in Wichita for the third consecutive year and fourth time in five tries. The Saints play fifth ranked Johnson County Saturday morning at 10 with Saints Dugout Show at 9:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
