Liberal Withstands Alva

Liberal withstood a one hour twenty minute lightning delay in the top of the fourth inning and beat the Alva Goldbugs 5-3 Thursday in Alva. LHS scored one in the first before the Goldbugs answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. The Skins scored three in the third and led 4-1 during the delay. LHS scored in the top of the fifth and Alva scored one in the fourth and one in the sixth. Cole Evans pitched the distance improving to 4-0 with seven striketouts, two walks, four hits, and two earned runs. Sylman Pando was 2-3 with two runs while Kaiden Long was 1-2 with two RBI’s and Jared Hasik scored two runs. Tim Fitzgerald was 1-4 with a run and a double. Liberal is 8-0 and plays at Scott City against the Beavers Friday at 3 and plays Hays-Thomas Moore Prep Friday at 5 in Scott City. Liberal’s next home game is Tuesday at 4 against Booker.
