A Good Friday for Saints Baseball

Seward swept Cloud 6-1 and 12-0 Friday at Brent Gould Field. The Saints improve to 20-2 at home and begin their next to last conference series in fine fashion. Seward moves into fourth in the Jayhawk West at 15-11.

In game one, Austin King (6-2) struck out 10 in the win. Seward used a five run first to propell them. The Jordan Leinweber drove home a run with a fielder’s choice and Jake Fuller walked with the bases loaded and John Solberg was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Brandon Urquized lashed a double to left center to score two runs but Solberg was thrown out at home. Kevin Connolly added and RBI double into left center in the third for their sixth run. Connolly, Fuller, and Reed Thompson had two hits a piece in the win.

Seward won the second game by jumping on Cloud early and letting JB Olson go to work on the mound. Seward scored four in the first two innings before adding a run in the third, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth. Olson (6-1) allowed three hits and struck out seven and walked one. In the first inning, Brent Williams, Brandon Rix, and Mason Marshall provided RBI singles. In the second, Bryson Allen and Rix hit RBI doubles and Thompson hit a two RBI singles. Williams added an RBI single in the fifth and Marshall and Fuller hit RBI singles in the sixth. The game was called after seven innings due to the run rule. Allen was 3-3 while Williams, Rix, and Marshall had two hits a piece.

Seward is 27-21 overall and 15-11 in the Jayhawk West. and Cloud is 12-29 overall and 7-19 in the conference. The same two teams meet a 1 Saturday at Brent Gould Field on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
