LHS Girls Win Thrilling Opener at Guymon

KSCB News - March 26, 2014 6:43 am

The Lady Redskin soccer team defeated Guymon 4-3 in a penalty kick shoot out Tuesday evening in Guymon. Guymon scored to make it 1-0 at the 31 minute mark. The goal chipped goalkeeper Magali Vazquez. At the 29 minute mark in the second half a GHS defensive player got hurt and had to be picked up by an ambulance so there was a about a 20 minute delay. When the game resumed, Kelly Ramirez crossed the ball, it deflected off of senior midfielder Marilyn Guzman and Jasmine Chacon was able to finish and put the ball in the back of the net at the 17:03 mark of the second half. At the end of regulation it was tied at 1-1. Oklahoma rules state that we don’t go to overtime in a non conference match so they went straight to a PK shoot out. Carolina Limon was first up and she put hers in. Theny Guymon tied it with their first shooter. Amelia Juarez shot the seond PK but the keeper made the save. Guymon’s next player missed with a save by Vazquez. The third kicker Jasmin Chacon missed her PK just wide right. Guymon took the lead their next kicker. Kelly Ramirez posted a goal past the GHS keeper in the bottom right to tie it at 3-3 in PK’s. Guymon’s fourth kicker missed by shooting it just wide left. Yvette Vazquez took the lead for LHS making her PK to make it 4-3.

LHS had 12 shots led by Chacon’s four. Vazquez had five saves. LHS started the game in a 3-5-2 formation but needed more support so changed it to a 4-4-2 at the half. LHS had possession of the ball a majority of the second half. Liberal plays at the Wichita South Titan Classic next week.
