Frank Phillips Sinks Seward in Slugfest

KSCB News - March 21, 2013 7:17 am

It was a typical mid-week game. Seward used six pitchers and Frank Phillips used five pitchers as the Plainsmen ran by the Saints 15-12 Wednesday afternoon at Brent Gould Field. The wind was blowing out and that added fuel to the fire.

Seward led 5-1 after three until the Plainsmen feasted on several shaky Seward relievers. FPC scored five in the fourth, five in the sixth, and four in the eighth.

Several Saints had good days including Reed Thompson who was 3-4 and Troy Owen was 3-6. Bret Lewis was 2-4 and Jacob Fuller was 2-5 and both drove home three runs a piece. On the mound, Hayden Howard was solid going three innings without allowing an earned run

Frank Phillips (16-6) is an upstart program and has equalled their win total from last year. They sit in third in the WJCAC behind only Howard and Odessa. The Saints are a program with a proud tradition which has fallen on hard times at 13-18. It’s their worst start since 1990.

Seward is 7-5 and in third in the Jayhawk West. They play at second place Garden City (12-13, 6-2) Friday at 3 p.m. for a double header airing on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
