Garden City Airport Meets Goal, Receives Subsidy

KSCB News - December 16, 2011 8:15 am

It was close, but Garden City Regional
Airport officials say they’ve met the 10,000-passenger threshold
needed to collect $1 million in federal funds for improvement
projects in 2013.
The Federal Aviation Administration requires airports to have at
least 10,000 departing and arriving passengers each year to secure
the $1 million subsidy.
Garden City aviation director Rachelle Powell says the local
airport recorded 10,147 passengers as of the end of November,
including commercial, charter and other flights.
Projects to be funded with the federal subsidy in 2013 include
improvements to a taxiway built in the 1980s. Powell says the
taxiway is in very bad shape after being patched up numerous times.
