Emmi Lott, a seven-year-old student at Hugoton Elementary School, is a winner for the southwest region of Kansas in the Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day poster contest.

Emmi will receive a bicycle donated by the Wal-Mart Super Center in Liberal and a helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas.

The prizes were presented by the Kansas Department of Transportation at an assembly at Hugoton Elementary on Tuesday, October 18.

A total of 642 poster contest entries were received across the state with 18 kids receiving regional and statewide recognition. The contest helps make people of all ages aware of the need to reduce fatalities on our nation’s highways. Numerous transportation organizations across the state sponsor the event.
