The city of Guymon is experiencing a water emergency and has implemented Stage 3 water conservation measures.

The city says the daily water production report for July 21 shows the city’s demand has reached 95.4% of Guymon’s available production capacity.

This, paired with previous water system demand, has met the criteria from the 2024 Water Conservation Plan to implement emergency measures.

Effective immediately, the city says the following restrictions are in place and are not limited to:

• Outdoor lawn irrigation limited to one day per week according to the approved watering schedule.
  • Odd addresses may irrigate on Saturday
  • Even addresses may irrigate on Sunday
  • Watering time will be after 7 p.m. and before 11 a.m.
• Watering is permitted only during designated hours.
• Filling water tanks, trailers or totes for transport outside of Guymon city limits is prohibited.
• Irrigation systems shall be operated in a manner that prevents water runoff from leaving private property.

City officials say there will be strict enforcement of water waste provisions from the Guymon Code of Ordinances.

There will be a one-week period for education and notification. After this, the city says violations will be subject to enforcement and applicable fines.

“The City appreciates the cooperation of our residents, businesses, and community partners as we work together to protect Guymon’s water supply. These temporary conservation measures are necessary to ensure the continued delivery of safe and reliable water service while preserving adequate capacity for emergency response and public safety,” says Guymon City Manager Michael Shannon.
