Recently, a group of concerned citizens in Seward County, filed a Recall Petition on Seward County Commissioner Steve Helm with Seward County Attorney Russell Hasenbank. In an official statement, Hasenbank stated:
“After Review of the “Petition for Recall of an Elected Official” regarding Steve A. Helm, County Commission, District 5, I find the Petition to be insufficient in its current form. A large volume of additional information was submitted with the “Petition”. Some of the information is relevant to what occurred, and some is not. However, the Petition on its face and within the four corners of the document MUST include facts sufficient to support the reason for the recall. Conclusions not supported by facts stated in the Petition or opinions of wrong doing are not sufficient. The exhibits cannot and are not considered a part of the consideration of what is stated in the Petition even though they are referenced in the Petition.
If you wish to discuss the matter further, please contact my office and you may make an appointment to see me on the matter.
Sincerely,
Russell Hasenbank
Seward County Attorney
