Guymon Water Restrictions Close to Entering Stage 3

The City of Guymon issued an advisory on Wednesday that its community is on track to move from “Stage 2” water restrictions to “Stage 3” amid high demand and hotter temperatures.

According to officials, the city’s water demand reached 95.4% of its capacity on Tuesday, exceeding its general supply boundaries and triggering mandatory water conservation measures for Wednesday.

Previously, Guymon entered “Stage 2” or “Water Warning” restrictions, which is triggered with demand exceeding 90% of its production capacity for two or more days in one week. The “Stage 3” or “Water Emergency” status is triggered when water demand exceeds 95% of the community’s production capacity for two or more days in one week.

With mandatory conservation measures in effect for residents, officials advised outdoor watering restrictions remained in place as of Wednesday:

  • Odd/even watering schedules apply for residents;
  • No watering is allowed on Wednesdays; and
  • Watering should be done between the hours of 7 p.m. and 11 a.m.

“We appreciate everyone doing their part to use water wisely and help manage peak demand during the summer months,” said officials in the advisory.

The community is set to officially enter “Stage 3” water restrictions on a longer-term basis of demand reaches above the 95% capacity threshold for another day during the week.
