The public is invited to Southwest Symphony Society’s spring concert concert, “Dances of Fire and Majesty” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the Showcase Theater at Seward County Committee College. Admission is a free-will donation at the door and refreshments will be served.
“Our local musicians volunteer their time and talents,” said Conductor Josiah Smiddy, “and they have been working several months now on putting together a concert that each selection has a fantasy component. We always try to put together a concert with a theme.” Smiddy has been serving as the conductor for the Southwest Symphony orchestra since August 2017.
“I appreciate the hard work our conductor puts in to bring together concerts that have a strong central theme that helps to engage the audience,” said Kay Burtzloff, Southwest Symphony Society president. “I think people are often surprised at the depth of talent we have in our community.”
The concert will feature the following selections:
- España Cañí – Pascual Marquina Narro
- Amazing Grace – John Newton
- Malagueña – Ernesto Lecuona
- Pirates of the Caribbean – Klaus Badelt
- Rhosymedre – Ralph Vaughan Williams
- Fortuna from Carmina Burana – Carl Orff
- Jupiter – Gustav Holst
