Bridge repair project to begin on U.S. 83 over Cimarron River in Seward County

The Kansas Department of Transportation will start a bridge repair project on the U.S. 83 bridge over the Cimarron River, located north of Liberal in Seward County on Wednesday, May 6th.

Traffic on U.S. 83 will be reduced to a single lane for the duration of the emergency bridge repair. Until temporary traffic lights are installed, flaggers will be present around the clock to direct traffic through the work zone. Motorists should anticipate delays of up to 15 minutes and reduce speed when approaching and crossing the bridge. A 10-foot width restriction is in effect for all vehicles. Oversized loads and wider vehicles must seek alternate routes.

PCI Roads LLC, of St. Michael, Minnesota, is the contractor on this $402,161 project. Weather permitting, it is expected to be completed by mid-June.

KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone.  To stay aware of all road construction projects across Kansas, go to www.kandrive.org or call 5-1-1.
