Joe Denoyer - August 1, 2018 4:52 pm

SOROPTIMIST CLUB 2018 FIVE STATE FAIR QUEEN CONTESTANTS

The Soroptimist Club of Liberal is proud to announce that we have four contestants vying for the Five State Fair Queen title, which will be crowned on Thursday, August 23, at the Seward County Fairgrounds before the Gospel Songfest. The candidate’s get-acquainted was held last Thursday evening at the Liberal Chamber of Commerce meeting room at the Rock Island Depot. The candidates and their mothers were in attendance to go over the campaign strategies. The tax-deductible money raised from this contest provides scholarships for area students and funds the club projects. Our contestants are as follows in alphabetical order:

BROOKLYNN BAUER

Brooklynn is the 17-year-old daughter of Marty and Cindy Bauer and will be a senior at Liberal High School  next fall. Her hobbies include photography, painting, and riding and showing her horse. At LHS she is in track, drama club, and all LHS drama productions, homecoming, school mascot and choir. She earned her SCCC Agriculture certificate during her junior year of high school and after graduating plans to finish her associates degree at SCCC and then pursue a bachelors degree in agriculture.

Brooklynn entered the Five State Fair Queen competition because she enjoys fair time and all of the festivities and opportunities associated with it. She would love to represent Seward County as its fair queen and is looking forward to a great experience. Brooklynn’s campaign activities include bake sales and dinners. Lasagna and chicken enchilada dinners for your office or family will be made by request. Saturday, August 4, she will be at the Farmers Market with homemade bierocks, cookies, cold pop and water. Brooklynn is taking pre-orders for the bierocks to be picked up on Saturday or another day that works for you. In addition, she has Summer Fun-Filled raffle tickets available for $5/ticket or $20 for five tickets with the drawing to be held August 23. You can contact Brooklynn on Facebook at “Brooklynn Bauer for 5-State Queen” or call 620.624.5980.

AIMEE MCFARLAND

Aimee is the 18-year-old daugher of Pastor Chris and Sandy McFarland of Hooker, OK. A star cross-country athlete, Aimee is a 2018 graduate of Hooker High School and will be attending Seward County Community College in the fall where she plans to get her Associates Degree in Marketing/Management. While on campus, Aimee will be involved in the Phi Beta Lambda business club. Aimee’s hobbies include working out, riding horses, cooking, and hanging out with her friends. Aimee volunteers her time at Vacation Bible School, watering community flowers, and working the annual Halloween Parade. She has previously worked as a lifeguard, waitress, mower, baby sitter, dog watcher, and is currently a student worker at SCCC this summer.

Aimee has entered the Fair Queen contest for personal development and to gain experience working in the community. Her campaign plans include bake sales and meals, car wash, garage sale, and lemonade sales. She also plans to interact with the community for their support.

KAITLYN STONEY

Kaitlyn is the 14-year-old daughter of Bethany and Keith Stoney and will be a LHS freshman next fall. In school, she is involved in volleyball, basketball, and softball. In addition to sports, her hobbies include playing games, watching movies, and hanging out with her friends. She has volunteered in babysitting, VBS, and National Night Out at her church. After high school, Kaitlyn plans to attend the Nurse Practitioner program at KU. This summer she simply plans to play sports, spend time with family and make the most of it.

Kaitlyn has entered the Fair Queen contest because she thinks that scholarships are a great thing and she would like to help raise money for them. She also wants to give back to the community. Her campaign plans include making and selling food and holding a garage sale.

SAMANTHA JO WALLACE

Samantha is the 17-year-old daughter of Chasity Wallace. She will be a senior at LHS in the fall and is active with Redskin Singers, Drama Club, JAG (Jobs for American Graduates), and National Honor Society. Samantha has community and volunteer experience by serving Christmas dinner at the local shelter, working at the SWMC Health Fair, and serves on the redesign committee at the high school. This summer Samantha is taking college classes at SCCC and working at Old Chicago to save money for college.

Samantha is competing in the Five State Fair Queen contest to earn scholarships that will grant her the opportunity to become a surgeon to improve the lives of others and to be a good role model for young children so they know that they can do anything they set their minds to. Samantha’s campaign plans include bake sales, car washes, mail-outs, donation jars, Freddy’s Fundraiser Night, raffles, and going to local businesses.
