3 Vie For 5 State Fair Queen

The Soroptimist Club of Liberal is proud to announce the three contestants vying for the Five State Fair Queen, who will be crowned on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the Five State Fair. The get-acquainted party was at the home of Cheryl Collins on July 28. The money raised from this contest is used for scholarships for students from this area and is tax deductible. The contestants are as follows:

JESSICA MALIN

Jessica is the 20-year-old daughter of Jennifer Malin. Her hobbies include doing productions in the community theater through both Seward County Community College and Rainbow Players. In addition, she works part time at United Wireless and trains the new Dorothy’s at Dorothy’s House.

Jessica has entered the Five State Fair Queen competition to be more involved within her community. Jessica’s campaigning activities include several bake sales. She is also selling $30 lasagna dinners, and that includes a pan of lasagna, green beans, four rolls and a pan of brownies, it will feed a family of 4, for $15 pan of lasagna. She is having a raffle for a big screen TV, the price is $5 per ticket or $20 for five tickets. Call 620-482-6102 to order or purchase tickets. STEPHANIE PAZ

Stephanie Paz is the 16-year-old daughter of Norma and Jose Paz. She enjoys reading, cooking, bike riding, and playing volleyball. She will be a junior at Liberal High School this fall as she focuses her studies on business marketing, accounting, and AP literature. She is also active in volleyball, power lifting, and track. Her future plans include attending culinary school and eventually starting her own business. Stephanie has a passion for cooking and baking and has competed in school athletics for many years. This summer, she has kept busy car-hopping for Sonic Drive-In.

Stephanie has entered the Five State Fair Queen contest to earn scholarship money and to be more involved in the community. Stephanie’s campaigning activities involve food sales, yard sales, and drawings.

SAMANTHA TERRAZAS

Samantha is the 17-year-old daughter of Ruby and Jose Terrazas. She will be a senior at Liberal High School this fall and is very involved on campus. She completed her CNA this summer, taking phlebotomy at SCCC, as well as college English, Government, and Math. She has also served as the StuCo treasurer and baseball manager, and has played both basketball and volleyball since the third grade. Samantha enjoys babysitting, and her  future plans are to become a nurse practitioner, eventually becoming a doctor. Samantha has been working at Lydden Aero Center for the past two years as a customer service representative.

Samantha has entered the Five State Fair Queen competition to get out of her comfort zone and meet more people. Samantha will focus her campaigning on bake sales.
