Tyson Says Worker’s Death Appears To Be Accidental

KSCB News - June 10, 2011 7:23 am

Tyson officials say a worker’s death at the plant appears to be an accident, although law enforcement officials continue to investigate.

Thirty-year-old Cesar Muniz died from a stab wound on Tuesday after being stabbed at the Tyson plant northwest of Holcomb.

The Finney County sheriff’s office says Muniz was stabbed when he and another worker bumped heads while working. The other man had a work knife in his hand at the time.

Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson says it appears that Munoz was accidentally cut by his co-worker’s knife. He went to the plant’s health services department and was taken to the hospital but did not survive.

Mickelson told The Garden City Telegram Thursday that the company is conducting its own investigation and has contacted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
