SW Kansas Officials Applaud Highway Expansion

KSCB News - June 6, 2011 10:24 am

Officials in southwest Kansas are
applauding the state’s transportation plan that calls for expansion
work on southwest Kansas highways.
Four-lane upgrades are planned for U.S. Highway 50 between
Cimarron and Dodge City, and for about 10 miles along U.S. Highway
54 from Liberal toward the northeast in Seward County. State
officials said the work could begin by 2014.
The 16-mile four-lane expressway construction project between
Dodge City and Cimarron is estimated to cost $69 million. The
Garden City Telegram reports that a U.S. Highway 54 project will
cost about $59 million. And a five-mile project along U.S. Highway
83 to add passing lanes costs about $19 million.
The projects were announced by Gov. Sam Brownback and
Transportation Secretary Deb Miller in Dodge City during a
five-city tour last week.
