Kansas, Tawain Sign Wheat Sale Agreement

KSCB News - September 23, 2011 8:22 am

Officials from Kansas and Taiwan have signed an agreement for the sale of Kansas wheat to the Asian country.

Taiwan plans to buy about 62 million bushels of Kansas hard red winter wheat, valued at nearly $485 million, in 2012 and 2013.

The agreement was signed Thursday at the Statehouse by Jay Armstrong, head of the Kansas Wheat Commission, and I-Tsung Chen, leader of a delegation from the Taiwan Flour Mills Association. Armstrong said details of the purchase price and the quality of the wheat are still being negotiated.

Gov. Sam Brownback’s office says Taiwan is importing about 42 million bushels of Kansas wheat this year.
