A 49 year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle she was driving pulled out in front of a semi and was struck on State Highway 136/U.S. Highway 64, 2 miles north of the Guymon City Limits.

Adela Chavez-Degomez, 49, of Albuquerque, N.M. was driving a 2001 Kia at 2:55 p.m. when she pulled out of a private driveway and into the path of a 2000 Kenworth driven by Gary Harris, 58, of Woodward. The vehicle was struck on the driver’s side door and traveled off the east side of the highway, coming to rest in a ditch.

The highway was closed north-bound at 24th Street in Guymon.
The driver was pinned inside the vehicle for 22 minutes. She was transported by Guymon EMS to Memorial Hospital of Texas County, where she was pronounced dead.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, the driver of the Kia was not wearing her seat belt. The driver of the semi had seat belts in use.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Ryan Williams of the Guymon Detachment and Boyd Perry of the Size and Weights Division. The Texas County Sheriff’s Department, Guymon Fire and EMS, Texas County Emergency Management and the Guymon Police Department assisted.
