Wednesday Morning Accidents Keep Liberal Police Officers Busy

Joe Denoyer - March 2, 2023 9:15 pm

On Wednesday March 1st, at approximately 7:58am, officers of the Liberal Police Department responded to the intersection of 11th Street and Western Avenue in reference to a non-injury accident.

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with a 2008 Mercury Milan, being driven by a 36-year-old female, and a 2001 GMC 1500, being driven by a 16-year-old male. Both drivers advised officers they were not injured. It was determined that the GMC was traveling North on Western Avenue and the Mercury was traveling East on 11th Street when they approached the intersection. The driver of the GMC did not see the Mercury crossing the intersection and struck the vehicle.

The driver of the GMC was issued a citation for Inattentive Driving. The driver of the Mercury was issued a citation for No Insurance.

Then at 8:50 am, emergency personnel were dispatched to Pancake Blvd. and Western Avenue for a possible injury accident.

A 2018 Ford Explorer, being driven by a 55-year-old male, was westbound on Pancake Blvd. A 2007 Chevrolet HHR, being driven by a 19-year-old male, was eastbound on Pancake and attempted to make a left turn onto northbound Western Ave. The Chevy HHR failed to yield the right-of-way to the Explorer causing the Explorer to strike the HHR. The HHR was forced into the northwest ditch after impact.

A passenger in the Ford was transported to SWMC by EMS for minor injuries. The driver of the HHR was issued a citation for failure to yield while making a left turn. Both vehicles were towed away due to extensive damage.
