United Way Has Full Slate Of Activities

KSCB News - October 2, 2014 8:57 pm

“October is one of busiest months with campaign events,” said Susan Lukwago, 2015 Campaign Chair for the Seward County United Way. “We have our Eat Outs, our Halloween event, our wine tasting and we’ve added a new event combining an evening of good food and fun silent auction items.”

This year’s goal is $340,000 and Lukwago said that with the outstanding support of the board and this community, “I am sure we will make this year’s campaign as successful as the last 13 years where the Seward County United Way has made goal every year.”

She added, “I know that this will come as a shock to some people, but this is Kay Burtzloff’s last United Way campaign. She has served as the Seward County United Way’s executive director since January 15, 2001. She is planning to retire after Jan. 1, 2015, but told the board of directors that she will remain until we have a new director hired.”

Lukwago said that Burtzloff’s future plans include managing her family’s self-storage businesses and she will remain active in many community organizations like the Liberal Area Coalition for Families and the Liberal Lion’s Club.

“I am inviting the community near and far, all those who have been touched by United Way in any manner, to come together and show Kay how much we appreciate the years she has devoted to the United Way and its agencies by making this one of its most successful campaigns,” Lukwago said. “Of course, having super turnouts at all the United Way events is one way the community can help. And, as always, we welcome direct monetary contributions.”

This year’s events include:
