Tyrone Looks to Build on Last Year’s Finish

KSCB News - August 18, 2009 12:00 am

The Tyrone Bobcats won three games last year to finish the season. Seventh year head coach Josh Bell is hopefull that momentum will carry over into the season. There are 20 out for football. Bell says he is looking to continue the program’s improvement. “We’re coming off three wins in a row so we’re trying to feed off that for these guys,” Bell said. We lost some key guys. It’s kind of a new brand of football for us. We’re going to try to utilize our speed a little bit. Adapting to that and having some guys fill some new rolls has been a big task during the summer.”

The Bobcats return sophomore safety Travis Shield who was one of the state’s leading tacklers last year.

Senior center William Parks says things look good so far. “We’re looking pretty good,” Parks said. “We have more numbers so practices are a little more challenging. We just got done with two a days so we’re setting up our offensive and defensive line drills.”

The Bobcats face stiff competition early in the season with key games in week two, three, four, and five against Buffalo, Shattuck, and Forgan. “We’re looking at getting into the playoffs,” senior running back and corner back Adrian Ramirez said. “We’ve got the games sitting there on the schedule that we should be able to pick up. We know we need to pick up at least one during the first part of the season with Buffalo, Shattuck, and Boise City. We really need to play fundamental football.”

Senior lineman Harold Robinson says he can hardly wait. “I love going out and hitting people,” Robinson said. “I love the pride that you get playing for a small town like this. It gives you a sense of being in something bigger than yourself.”

Bobcat fans hope that pride spills over into November and the playoffs this year. Bell and the Bobcats are featured during Tuesday’s edition of the Sportsguys on Talkradio 1270 and kscb.net.
