Time Once Again To Trick Or Treat For United Way
KSCB News - October 25, 2012 7:14 pm
Children of all ages can trick or treat at the "Halloween Celebration 2012"
from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Southgate Mall in Liberal.
Sponsored by the Mexican-American Ministries Liberal Care Center, the event
will also be a fund raiser for the Seward County United Way. Admission will
be $1 per person at the door for United Way.
This year’s event will also feature a "spooky" concert by the Southwest
Symphony Society starting at 5:30 p.m. The concert will include music from
the Harry Potter movies, "Phantom of the Opera," "The Sorcerer’s
Apprentice," and "Rosin Eating Zombies from Outer Space," as well as other
selections. The concert is expected to be about 45 minutes long.
"We had more than 600 people at last year’s event," said Dora Ponce of
Mexican American Ministries Liberal Care Center. "We had a very safe and fun
event for the children and we raised more than $600 for United Way. We’re a
United Way agency and we just wanted to give back for all their support."
Ponce said that there is still booth space available. The space is free but
organizations and businesses need to plan to bring their own tables and
chairs. "We’re anticipating that it will be an even bigger event this year
so we are advising people to plan for 1,000 this year. We ask that each
booth provide a treat or an activity for the children." There will be a
prize for the best decorated booth.
Those interested in having a booth can register at the Liberal Care Center,
